Green Souls

Green Souls is All Souls' environmental and creation-care ministry — a

community practicing the 7th UU Principle: respect for the interdependent

web of all existence, of which we are a part. Revived in spring 2026, we

connect with the natural world, green our own church's operations, and

partner with our neighbors for environmental justice across the DC region.

Everyone with an interest in our environmental ministry is welcome —

members and friends, families, hikers, gardeners, composters, and the

simply curious.

WHAT WE DO

🌱 Composting & Zero Waste at Coffee Hour

We run compost and recycling collection at Sunday Coffee Hour — sorting

stations, signage, and volunteers who help the congregation keep food

waste out of the landfill. We also collect used batteries for safe

recycling (drop them at the container behind the reception desk).

🥾 Nature Gatherings & Hikes

Regular outings into the region's green spaces — interpretive walks in

Rock Creek Park, the Lotus & Water Lily Festival at Kenilworth Aquatic

Gardens, and more. Family-friendly; bring a friend.

🌞 Marking the Seasons

We gather at the solstices and equinoxes to celebrate the turning of the

year — like our Summer Solstice sunset potluck picnic on the Potomac.

🏛️ Greening Our Building

Working with church staff and the Sustainable Building Task Force to

find energy-saving projects volunteers can help carry out.

🤝 Partnerships for Environmental Justice

We build relationships with organizations doing the work — including

Ward 8 Woods Conservancy, which restores public forest land east of the

Anacostia, and Interfaith Power & Light DMV. Our vision for the coming

years includes an Earth Month worship series and deeper engagement with

UU climate justice programs.

• Fall Meeting — Sunday, September 13, 12:30 PM, South Lawn.

• Global Bioregionalism Conference — September 8–10 (virtual), with an

in-person Potomac-bioregion gathering at All Souls on Thursday,

September 10. Free, but registration required by September 4.

• Compost volunteers always wanted at Sunday Coffee Hour — no

experience needed, training on the spot.
