Black Souls
Black Souls is a welcoming, Black-centered affinity group that brings together congregants who identify as Black African descendants, which includes African, African-American, African-Caribbean, Afro-Latino, Black, and biracial congregants. We gather for fellowship, community, and belonging in a safe space where we can feel comfortable sharing our voices and perspectives with each other.
We anchor our work in Black folks' history in this country and church, including Black members' contributions to All Souls and the wider Unitarian Universalist faith, building upon the legacy of Black members who worshipped at All Souls Church, Unitarian (Washington, DC). Rooted in the ways they sought to use their individual and collective talents, we aim to grow this church’s diversity and commitment to social justice, social activism, and the goal of becoming a beloved community. Black Souls uplifts and celebrates the legacy of Black African descendants through worship, community gathering, and initiatives that document the history and continuing story of Black congregants' contributions to the church, Unitarian Universalism, and the wider world.
