Green Sanctuary Project

Because we are a flagship UU church in the nation's capitol, and have many members and friends passionate about caring for Creation and environmental justice, our committee has set our sights on obtaining "Green Sanctuary" status from the Unitarian Universalist Association's Seventh Principle Project. This is a special credential which congregations can receive after meeting various educational, operational, spiritual and advocacy requirements. The first step involves evaluating our current program and operations of the church for their environmental impact and relation to the Seventh Principle. We will then work with church staff, leaders and members to identify and prioritize areas for significant improvement. We then must submit this plan to the national body and then successfully implement it before we can be approved. We anticipate that this will be a 2-3 year process.

Thank You Volunteers!

A second big "Thank You!" to all the VOLUNTEERS at our first GREEN SANCTUARY AUDIT, January 14th. Sarah Dean, Jim Heltman, Jan & Ernie Cormier, Jennifer Loss, Elizabeth Arnold, Heather McGray, and Ken Cousins investigated All Souls' nooks and crannies carrying clipboards, flashlights, tape measures, thermometers, measuring cups and all sorts of fun paraphanalia in the quest to measure our church's ecological "footprint". We appreciate your expertise and care in launching this historic effort in our church!
