Notes from the Membership Table

Welcome to All Souls Church, Unitarian, In Washington, DC. We are a welcoming congregation reaching out to people of all races, classes, ethnic origins, gender orientations, sexual orientations and faith journeys.

Deciding to join All Souls is a commitment; one that we hope will enrich your life. Therefore, we understand that this is not a commitment that most folks make lightly. All Souls encourages the following four expectations of all its members:

  • Plan to attend services on Sundays.

  • Find a way to serve the church.

  • Find a way for All Souls to serve you.

  • Make what feels like a generous contribution to the ongoing work of the church through your pledge.

Getting Started at All Souls

To help you get acquainted with All Souls, as well as the Unitarian movement, the Welcoming and Membership Committee holds monthly meetings for those interested in learning more about or joining our congregation. Meetings are informational; there is no pressure to join if you do not wish to do so. The process is as follows:

Step 1: Introduction
Join our associate minister, Rev. Shana Lynngood, to learn more about Unitarian Universalism and the history of All Souls.

Step 2: Orientation
Individuals interested in joining All Souls attend a three-hour Saturday morning or Wednesday night meeting that includes lay leadership. This meeting is intended to orient incoming members and to foster more in-depth conversations among those joining. It features a tour of the building and grounds, including the bell tower (so dress comfortably!). At the end of the meeting, those who wish to join our congregation can become new members by signing the membership book, making their pledges, and getting their pictures taken.

Step 3: New Member Sunday
New members are introduced and formally welcomed to the congregation during this special part of the worship service.
