The Church Council is envisioned as both a sounding board for the congregation and an advisory body to the Board of Trustees and Executive Team, which is composed of the church's executive director and ministers. The Council also provides church lay leaders a forum to collaborate, communicate, and coordinate. As defined in the church's bylaws under Section 8:
- The Church Council shall be composed of the chairs of all standing committees and ad hoc committees, leaders of church organizations and activities, and the officers of the church.
- Its role shall be to:
- share information
- coordinate programs
- broaden lay leadership, and
- advise the Executive Team and the Board of Trustees, and act as the committee to nominate the Nominating Committee.
- The Moderator shall be its chair.
Currently, the full Church Council convenes twice a year, in June and September.
